Tan Jing, a solo singer in the Song and Dance Troupe of the PLA General Political Department, a famous young singer, a National First Class Actress, and a member of the All-China Youth Federation, with a Master degree in musicology.
She was born in a musical family in Houma City, Shanxi Province. She began to learn how to play the piano at the age of 8, put on her first performance at 9 together with her parents and began to learn how to sing from her mother at 11.
In 1994, she was enrolled into the Vocal Music Department of Chinese Conservatory of Music, majoring in folk vocal music. After graduating from the academy with high grades in 1998, she was admitted into the Song and Dance Troupe of the PLA General Political Department. She has been performing as solo singer in the troupe. In July 2006, she finished her graduate program in Musicology Department in the Art Academy of PLA, and became the first singer using popular singing method with a Master¡¯s degree in China.
She is innovative in finding new ways to sing. She combines the advantages of Bel canto, national and popular songs. She also combines the advantages of traditional and modern ways of singing. Her style is decent, simple and moving, which distinguishes her from other singers. Her voice is clear and pure with rich feelings. Experts and audience are all moved by her songs and consider her songs as holy songs.
In August 2000, she won the golden prize of the Professional Pop Group in the 9th ¡°BuBuGao Cup¡± National Young Vocalist Competition sponsored by CCTV£¬and was honored as the Most Popular Singer. In 1998, she participated in the International Pop Music Competition held in Kazakhstan on behalf of China, and was awarded the silver prize. In 1997, she won the golden prize of ¡°Voice of Asia¡± International Singer Grand Award. In 1996, she won the golden award of Pop Group in the first National New Singer Competition. In recent years, her works have constantly won all kinds of awards in China. Besides, she has also won Media¡¯s Choice Award of the 9th Global Chinese Music Award, the title of the Most Popular Top Ten Military Singer among Mongolian audiences, one of the top ten singers of the Jinhao Award which is the most popular one of the China Radio Culture and Art Prize, the first prize of vocal singing in the 8th PLA Theatrical Festival, the Best Female Singer of the 2nd China Golden Disc Award and one of the top ten most popular singers among soldiers of the YinWang (Sound King) Cup.
Since 2000, Tan Jing has participated in the Spring Festival Celebration Party held by CCTV five years in a roll. She often goes to armies with her troupe to perform for soldiers, and she is highly popular among officials and soldiers. She has been to Canada, Mexico, America and other countries to give performance with staff in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She has also put on performances with the CCTV "Heart-to-Heart" Art Troupe in many places of China and is warmly received by the folks. She once acted as the heroine Zhao Yiman in the musical Crazy Snow, and millions of people were moved by her acting. On July 26th, 2004, she successfully held solo concert of army songs ¡°In Peaceful Age¡± at the Beijing Worker¡¯s Stadium. On September 12th, 2006, her solo concert entitled ¡°Voice of Harmony¡± was held at Golden Hall in Vienna, Austria. On December 15th, Tan Jing sang The Date of China during a 10-minute sequence, called "Oriental Charm¡± at the closing ceremony of 15th Asian Games in Doha, Qatar.
Tan Jing¡¯s representative works include ¡°In Peaceful Age¡±(a special disc of army songs), ¡°On the East Mountain Top¡±, ¡°Choosing Carefully¡±, ¡°Why the Flowers are So Red¡±, ¡°Your Goddess Tan Jing¡±, ¡°Selection Of Tan Jing¡¯s Songs¡±, ¡°Voice of Harmony¡± at the solo concert held at the Golden Hall in Vienna, ect.
She has sung topic songs in TV series like ¡°Secret Services at the Enemies¡¯ Rear Area¡±, ¡°The Qiao¡¯s House¡±, ¡°Broken Jade¡±, ¡°General Shi Lang¡±, and film ¡°My Long March¡± etc. The songs are all well received.
Besides performing in local areas, Tan also donates her time to public welfare, anti-drug campaigns and AIDS patients. She donated more than 300,000 RMB to her hometown to build the Spring Bud School in Xinjiang County, Shanxi Province. She was engaged as ¡°honorary headmaster¡± of the school. She has been appraised as "philanthropy star" by the Chinese Women and Children Fund Association, and she has been chosen as ambassador of the ¡°Spring Bud¡± project.
In 2004, she was chosen as ambassador of the Spring Sunlight Program sponsored by Guizhou Provincial Youth League Committee.
In May 2006, she donated 200,000 RMB to set up ¡°Tan Jing Youth Health Fund¡± and she has taken the role of Love Ambassador in Jiangxi Province. In November 2006, she was chosen as ambassador of anti-drugs campaign among college students which was called Caring for the College Students¡ªGoing Into Colleges when Tulips Blossom.In December 2006, she participated in the Red Ribbon Symphony Concert held in the Beijing Concert Hall by National Family Planning Office, Working Committee for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Treatment under the State Council, Ministry of Publicity of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) and Ministry of Culture.
In January, 2007, she was chosen as Ambassador of Poverty Alleviation in Jiangsu Province. Tan donated 200,000 RMB to Jiangsu Province, of which half went to the establishment of Hope Primary Schools in poverty-stricken counties in the northern part of the Province and half went to the Poverty Alleviation Fund to cover the medical expenses for 60 severe patients. In May, 2007, Tan Jing was chosen as Ambassador of Clean Water of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project and in June, she became a volunteer in the publicity against drugs.
